"More people are ruined by victory, I imagine, than by defeat."
The Vikings ruled what is now Scandinavia and the surrounding areas in the 10th century AD, even venturing into Britain and southwestern Europe. Digs in Viking-held areas over the past forty years have unearthed a treasure trove of their exquisite jewelry. The artifacts found in digs of old sites show that Viking women chose their graceful jewelry carefully, and rejoiced in wearing it - maidens wearing many pieces at the same time. These women were both beautiful and fierce warriors. Their celebrations must have been a colorful sight.

In 1967, in Roskilde, Denmark, we unearthed a most graceful Thor's Hammer Amulet carved from walrus ivory. (Thor was the god of thunder.) We designed our Viking Maiden's Amulet after that find. Your own heart will celebrate every time you put on this Fossil Walrus Ivory Amulet with its eyecatching patterns and colors. It radiates a full 1/4 inch of light, medium and dark ivory rays until they reach the dark outer edge - reminiscent of a scandinavian sunset! It is fully bezeled and mounted on Sterling Silver knotted ropes, both above and below. It rests on a gemstone of your choice - In the amulet shown, a faceted bright green quartz gem. (Also available with Amethyst, Garnet, Citron and Lapiz.) Imagine yourself wearing it and dancing at a Viking festival! 1 1/2 inches high, 1 1/16 inch wide.

Complete with Sterling Silver chain.

Fossil Ivory Color Charts

Below are the available colors of our fossil ivories. Our high quality fossilized ivories have been reclaimed from the ground after sharing the earth for up to 30 millennia! Even after all this time, Fossil Ivory remains warm and sensuous organic ivory; it is not petrified. It has developed its beautiful colors by taking up minerals from the earth and these colors are impossible to match in any contemporary ivories by modern processes.
