"It was as if I had worked for years on the wrong side of a tapestry, learning accurately all of its lines and figures, yet always missing its color and sheen."
This is a slightly smaller variant of our South Siberian Coast Amulet. It is similar to the one found along the southern Siberian Coastline, in a stone foundation about 3000 years old. The rare Fossil Walrus Ivory we used for this piece - Grey Crystalline With Weathered Black Edges - is 8000 years old. (It also comes in other colors and types of Fossil Ivory.) It is designed after an Amulet found in a Aleut Shaman woman's household in a dig on the western Aleutian Islands of Alaska, at about the 500 BC level. This pendant with its similar design to our southern Siberian Coast Amulet, is thought to have a similar purpose, and have come through the Chukchi peoples of Siberia, who traveled south through the Bering Sea in the course of their trade voyages. Both front and back of this Fossil Walrus Ivory are visible below the Sterling Silver bezel. Beads and swirls in applique on the bezel, as well as intertwined lines on the bail contribute to the intricacy. A provocative amulet pendant.

1 1/4 inches high, 1 inch wide.

Fossil Ivory Color Charts

Below are the available colors of our fossil ivories. Our high quality fossilized ivories have been reclaimed from the ground after sharing the earth for up to 30 millennia! Even after all this time, Fossil Ivory remains warm and sensuous organic ivory; it is not petrified. It has developed its beautiful colors by taking up minerals from the earth and these colors are impossible to match in any contemporary ivories by modern processes.
